The successful candidate must be able to provide intellectual and administrative leadership in the Department, and actively contribute to research and teaching in Curriculum Studies in our teacher education programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The incumbent will also be expected to mentor staff in teaching and research, participate in community engagement projects, and serve on relevant Departmental and Faculty committees. The Faculty of Education has a rich history of engaging with the key issues facing South African education, and offers innovative, research-based teacher education programmes and excellent postgraduate degree programmes in education. The Department of Educational Studies offers courses in the social and historical foundations of education practice. Our teaching and research interests cut across the interdisciplinary fields of history and philosophy of education, curriculum studies, sociology of education and education policy studies, educational leadership and management, comparative education and research methodology. We aim to strengthen the teaching profession by building vibrant relationships with schools and educational support initiatives, and educating our students to become excellent teachers, critical scholars, and reflective practitioners of change in South African education.
