REQUIREMENTS: · Grade 12 · Fire Fighter 1 and 2 · Hazmat Awareness · EC License · Expected to work 12-hour shifts (day and night shifts) DUTIES: KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: · Responding as a member of the crew to fires, rescues, hazardous material incidents and related emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents, where he/ she will deploy and operate a range of equipment to control/ extinguish fire, extricate or release casualties, resuscitate or treat injured persons and carrying out emergency operations as directed by the supervisor in order to save life and property. · Undertaking protection duty by standing by potentially life or property threatening incidents and events with appropriate equipment as directed by supervisors to minimize the risk to life and property. · Conducting the maintenance and inspection of fire hydrants/ extinguishers, to ensure fixed installations are correctly identified and in good working order, to ensure they are working and are clearly identifiable in times of emergency. · Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duty by participating in training drills, stimulation exercises, physical fitness training maintaining a high standard of safety and operational efficiency at emergency incidents. · Participating in pre- planning visits as directed by immediate supervisors and reducing the incidence severity of fire and providing a safer environment for fire-fighters and communities. · Preparing for emergency incidents by checking, cleaning, testing and maintaining equipment and vehicles, ensuring safety, availability and operation at all times. · Participating in the cleaning and maintenance of fire stations as directed by the Senior Fire Fighter in order to maintain a safe and hygienic working environment in such stations. · Performing administrative duties, sign registers, reporting defects on all machinery, vehicles equipment and reports to the Senior Fire Fighter for actioning / repairing. · Conducting non-emergency duties such as driving light motor vehicles and the collection and delivery of correspondence, equipment and personnel as directed by the Supervisor/Senior Fire Fighter ensuring the efficient functioning of the Department. · Attending the safety and safekeeping of all departmental equipment, vehicles, furniture, etc, by ensuring safety and storage procedures are adhered to at all times. · Obey any lawful instructions by your Supervisor.
